So I’ve been blogging for what? 6 years nearly? All that time, all those posts, and not once have I ever offered a giveaway. Well, that is, until now! Yes, today marks the inaugural giveaway here at Lisa writes… and I have a favorite of mine to give away.
Y’all know what kind of book nerd I am and when I find a book I really, really like I am excited to recommend it to others. For example, sometimes when I am at a bookstore just browsing the shelves I will find myself talking up a favorite title to a complete stranger in an attempt to convince her of the value of the book she may or may not actually be interested in. I did much the same thing at TGCW12 while perusing the tables of books available for purchase. Some sweet sister would pick up a copy of Nancy Guthrie’s Hoping for Something Better or Melissa Kruger’s The Envy of Eve and before she knew what hit her I’d launch into an outpouring of enthusiasm that was usually appreciated (though perhaps sometimes not).
In fact my effusion for The Envy of Eve was so pronounced that the girl at the Christian Focus table suggested I work the crowd like a town crier carrying stacks of the book and extolling its merits for all to hear. She was joking, of course, and perhaps maybe even poking a little fun at me but don’t think I didn’t consider it.
One book I heartily recommended to anyone who happened to seem to be even remotely considering it was Lit! by Tony Reinke. Y’all may remember me reading it back at the first of year and making the early prediction that it would be one of my favorite reads of 2012. I love books, as you well know, and I love books that encourage a love of books and Tony’s does exactly that.
Here’s the publisher’s description of the book:
Learn how to better read, what to read, when to read, and why you should read with this helpful guide from accomplished reader Tony Reinke. Offered here is a theology for reading and practical suggestions for reading widely, reading well, and for making it all worthwhile.
I received a copy of Lit! at the writing focus group at TGCW12 and since I already have a copy of my own I am excited to pass it on to one of you!
We’ll keep the process simple: to be considered for the giveaway, post a comment here on this post (just one comment, please). For fun you can tell me what books you love to recommend, fiction, non fiction, it doesn’t matter. Whether or not you offer a recommendation will have no bearing on your opportunity in the giveaway; I just thought it’d be interesting to hear your book-related enthusiasm!
I’ll email the providential winner on Tuesday, July 24 so spread the word!
Happy reading, friends!
