Linked and Liked

Here’s some links I’ve liked this week (most of which I linked to in some form or fashion on Twitter but all bear another link and another look if you’re so inclined)…

Book Review: The World Tilting Gospel
I really liked this book though I never posted an official review. I agree with Rebecca’s thoughts here:
The World-Tilting Gospel gives us…the whole-Bible Gospel in an energetic, easy-to-understand, earnest-but-never-preachy style. And she’s giving away a copy! Click here for details.

Good Writing
My blog friend Sandra has a great series on her website regarding essential components of good writing: Sacrifice, Focus, Vulnerability, Tension and Skill. Click on each component to read Sandra’s post.

As Titanic sank, he pleaded, ‘believe in the Lord Jesus!’
As the water began to submerge the “unsinkable” ship, Harper was heard shouting, “women, children, and the unsaved into the lifeboats.” Rebuffed by a certain man at the offer of salvation Harper gave him his own life vest, saying, “you need this more than I do.” Up until the last moment on the ship Harper pleaded with people to give their lives to Jesus.

Kids, You Know Better!
If I plaster my soul with the false comfort that “I know better” to confirm that I really am perfect (I just forgot to love my neighbor), then I am not rejoicing in the gospel of grace. I have no need for grace; I just need to be reminded to be the best me that I know I am.

The Book of Romans in 45 Tweets
[W]hat if we diced up the message of Romans into bite-sized summaries? What if we limited these summaries to 140 characters?

My pastor’s sermon on Malachi 1.
It’s a must-watch and I’m not just saying that because he’s my pastor or because I want to share the fun of conviction. Seriously. Watch it and be encouraged by the Lord’s abundant grace for sinners like us!

  1. One of my favorite posts of the week was the one you wrote about your friend's mother passing away.I also liked this one by Jared Wilson. Some people found it harsh, but this caused my husband and I both to wish we could turn back time.

  2. The most instructive thing I found from that post was the injunction for the young man to be cautious about "I love you." I noticed that young people throw that phrase around rather easily; far more easily than when my husband and I were first together. Someone told my daughter that waaaay too soon, and when things ended, she was devastated. She's 22, and still recovering from something that ended almost six years ago now. Some scars take a long time to fade.

  3. I completely agree. I am so sorry for your daughter's heartbreak and I hope she continues to rest in the only love that will never fail her, the love of Christ that restores and redeems…
