What’s On Your Nightstand, June

What's On Your Nightstand

Time once again for 5 Minutes for Books‘ monthly “What’s On Your Nightstand?” carnival!
I am currently reading…

Idols of the Heart: Learning to Long for God Alone–A very convicting look at the deepest desires of our hearts and our temptation to look for satisfaction and meaning and purpose in “idols” and not in the Person of Jesus Christ.
The Texicans–Think Lonesome Dove.
A Shelter in the Time of Storm: Meditations on God and Trouble–Fifty one meditations on one of my favorite Psalms, the 27th.

What are YOU reading? We want to know! Post your list and link up here, then go see what’s on everyone else’s nightstands!

  1. Isn't Texicans the one that Jennifer thought was right up your alley? 🙂 Isn't she getting good at knowing what we'd each like? Enjoy!

  2. Ooh…Idols of the Heart is good! I haven't read it in a long time, but I should pull it out again. 🙂 And, I just read something else about The Disappearance of God, right before I read your post!! Now it's definitely on my list of books to get!! 🙂

  3. Idols of the Heart sounds awesome. Definitely something I've been thinking about lately. I'm glad you mentioned it! And I am definitely looking forward to hearing what you think about The Texicans. 😉

  4. [Chanting to myself] "I will not buy more books, I will not buy more books, I will *not* buy more books!"Looks like a good list!

  5. Great list and you have just reminded me that I put "Idols of the heart" on the shelf a while ago and I must dig it out and read it! I am currently reading "Sonia" – a biography about an Irish athlete and Crazy Love by Francis Chan. I am amazed at the books you get through! You always inspire me to read more.

  6. While on vacation this week, I've been reading Ravi Zacharias' "The Grand Weaver." Oh my…a keeper indeed. A re-read for sure. He's one of my favorites.peace~elaine

  7. I am currently reading Christianity Explained by David Pawon, The Mystery of Providence (Second go round) by John Flavel, Stand: A Call for the Endurance of the Saints, edited by Piper and Justin Taylor, and I'm re-reading Spectacular Sins. I also have several commentaries on Isaiah and John scattered throughout the house that I'm using, trying to finish When Sinners Say I Do. If that's not enough, I have about 10 more books calling for me to pay them some attention, and the moment you said "Lonesome Dove" I wanted to buy Texicans. Have Mercy!
