Friday’s Favorites

It’s Friday; time for another list of five favorites of the week! Some of my favorite things this week include…

1. Resuming Bible study. I think I’ve told you we’re studying surrender. Good stuff. This week we considered Jesus’ call to commitment in Luke 9:23-24, And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. Talk about total commitment–denying self, taking up your cross, losing your life. Surrender, complete and total.

2. My first day “on the job” as a counselor at the crisis pregnancy center. I loved it! Among other things, I got to pray with a young expectant mom! She took a copy of a Bible study on the book of John we offer and I really think she’ll be back to talk about it!

3. Matthew West‘s newest song, The Motions. Consider the lyrics:

This might hurt
It’s not safe
But I know that I’ve gotta make a change
I don’t care
If I break
At least I’ll be feeling something
“˜Cause just ok
Is not enough
Help me fight through the nothingness of life

I don’t wanna go through the motions
I don’t wanna go one more day
Without Your all consuming passion inside of me
I don’t wanna spend my whole life asking
What if I had given everything?
Instead of going through the motions

Yes and amen. I don’t want to go through the motions without the all consuming passion of my Lord. I think of Romans 12:11, Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.

4. Cadbury mini eggs. Tis the season! Love them! Look forward to them every spring! One of my second favorite things about Easter; the first being the Resurrection of my Lord…

5. This comment Kelly @ Love Well left at this post of Elle’s @ A Complete Thought. I sense the tension within myself of wanting to blog, feeling as if I ought to blog, and not blogging (and then feeling guilty about it all). Kelly’s comment that blogging is not your life, well, it’s totally true and I find a lot of freedom in it. I’ll blog when I blog and in the meantime I’ll be living this ordinary life to which the Lord has called me…

So, there you go. Five faves of the week. It’s been a wild and crazy week, to be sure–stopping to count my blessings and name them one by one reminds me of the grace and mercy of my good and gracious God. As I do so, I think of many other favorites I could add; visiting our dear friends over the weekend for instance. How good is our God, the Giver of all good things!

  1. Good morning Lisa! Counseling at a pregnancy center, blessings on you and anyone that walks in the door.I wanted to say something witty about Cadbury eggs and Jesus but it probably wouldn’t come across right on paper! I hope you have a refreshing weekend…

  2. Lisa, I also checked out Susanne’s and I think I may join in this Friday’s Five Favorites. I don’t do the Memes or Mr. Linky’s but always enjoy reading them on other blogs but this one has really caught my eye. I’ll start next Friday as I’m done blogging for today but when I do it do I link back to Susanne and to yours since she is the originator but I also found her via you? Help me out as this is all new for me. Thanks and bless you dear sister.

  3. Very cool list. Regarding #5, I needed that freedom boost. I often feel guilty for the “sometimes I don’t” on my blog. I’m not a blogger, I just happen to write a blog. Big difference? Maybe…..Anyway, I think I’ll stop feeling guilty when I don’t keep up daily with my HOBBY. Thanks!

  4. Well, here’s my five (in no particular order):1. American Idol. I know. Trivial, but just a chance for me to do nothing in particular for a moment.2. My dyslexic son’s 100 % on his spelling test.3. My daughter’s haircut…honestly, I was nearly a wreck with all that hair and tangles accordingly.4. The fact that I’m going out to eat tonight.5. My dad’s arrival at the kids’ school today to tell stories for chapel. It took me back…way back!Happy weekend to you~elaine

  5. How wonderful that you work at a Crisis Pregnancy Center! I forgot about the Cadbury eggs! Its that time of year and I need to go and get some!

  6. Great list, Lisa! Your bible study sounds very powerful. We’re doing a study on emotions and bringing them under the control of the Holy Spirit. Your first day at the crisis centre sounds like it went really well. What an opportunity to touch someone for Jesus.

  7. I enjoyed your post. God bless you for counseling at the Crisis Pregnancy Center. That’s an awesome ministry. And, oh, how I love the surrender topic. “Take up your cross daily.” Each day is a new challenge to serve God and give ourselves completely. Thanks for inspiration! Many blessings!Andrea

  8. Love your favs 🙂 I have such a soft spot for counseling at the pregnancy center … something I have wanted to do for YEARS. When my girls were in public school, I had signed up for the classes and then we decided to homeschool and so timing just isn’t right. I have been downtown and plan on going regularly to counsel with girls outside the abortion clinic. Talk about sobering.I would love to hear the testimonies from your experience there. ***OH and we love Matthew West too 🙂

  9. Great list! And we have one more thing in common . . . I’m not a counselor, but I used to be on the board of our local Crisis Pregnancy Center. What a blessing that ministry is! Glad you joined it.

  10. Love that Matthew West song. And I haven’t purchased my annual bag of mini eggs yet. If I buy it too early, I finish it and then go buy another! Not good! And I’m so glad your first day as counselor went well. I just know God’s going to bless you abundantly through this new role.
