My husband and I recently had the joy of giving the perfect gift. It was a gift we were so excited about giving, one we had planned and anticipated for several days. With great joy we presented the gift to the recipient in anxious expectation of her reaction and we were not disappointed. Our gift was exclaimed over, rejoiced in and greatly appreciated. We discovered anew that it is indeed more blessed to give than receive.
The next day, as I revisited the joy of that particular gift, both the joy found in receiving it as well as the joy found in giving it, I thought of Jesus’ words in Luke 11:13,
If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts…how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!
We get great joy out of giving good gifts, gifts given with much love and thought. Our joy was made complete in the joy of the recipient of our gift. Yet how much more does our Father give to us! Blessings of life, home and family, but far greater than these, He has given us the indescribable gift of His Son, the how much more of this life and the next! May we rejoice in the how much more of His love and grace!
