Hello, forty!

Yep, it’s my birthday. The big FOUR-ZERO. My husband asked me what it felt like to finally be a grown up. I told him I didn’t know yet. Nevertheless, he will find out himself as he leaves behind the thirty something decade next week…

My plans for the day are not yet clearly defined but will no doubt include (but not limited to) coffee, chocolate, and laying on the sofa. And a new haircut (yay!). Oh yeah, and soccer practices and meetings and other such (non) birthday inspired activities.

Since it’s my birthday, and a milestone birthday at that, why don’t you leave me a comment, yes, even those of you who have never ever left a comment in your life? Go ahead, make my day and leave me something to smile about–maybe your favorite verse or a funny birthday memory.

Note: the words “OLD” and “FORTY’ are not to be used in the same sentence! We forty year olds can have a fragile self image! πŸ˜‰

Blessings to you all!

  1. Happy Birthday!! I just recently stumbled across your blog and have truly enjoyed it.My favorite verse is without a doubt, Philippians 4:13- “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” It’s so encouraging to me!! Hope your day is wonderful! πŸ™‚

  2. Happy Birthday! I enjoy your blog so much! One of my favorite chapters is Prov. 3- and no, I won’t write the whole chapter here. I love verses 5 and 6: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and he will make your paths straight.” Have a great day!

  3. OH HAPPY BIRTHDAY friend. Sipping coffee here in your honor. You are such a blessing to me and I think we should make this the year we get to meet in person. You look amazing and I hope all those boys spoil you rotten today.

  4. SERIOUSLY!?!Hey there birthday buddy! Yup – that’s right – it’s my birthday too!! It’s a landmark day for me also. 30. Well, have a WONDERFUL day today! ;D

  5. Welcome to the fabulous forties filled with fantastic frivolity and fascinating festivities for the feisty females feeling that faith is in fashion forever!Happy Fortieth!

  6. What a great day for a birthday! You and my boy!!Welcome to the 40’s. It’s about time you got here! A verse for you. . . . let’s see, probably won’t choose Job 3:3 – “May the day of my birth perish. . .”!! LOLHow about Psalm 118:24 “This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Hope your day is full of rejoicing! Wish I could take you out for a real cup of mocha.Love ya!Linda

  7. Oooh, baby. I’m out of blog breakdom to celebrate this one. Happy Birthday, friend! Here’s a ditty Jules has shared with me from a friend of hers:When you’re in your 20’s, you care what everyone thinks about you. When you’re in your 30’s, you don’t care what anyone thinks about you. When you’re in your 40’s, you realize no one’s thinking about you.But we are thinking about you today. Have a great day!

  8. Happy Birthday!!! I’m trying to figure out a clever way of using both forbidden words without actually using them, but I can’t think of any synonyms for old besides ancient, decrepid, aged, over-the-hill, antique, and such.

  9. This is my first visit to your blog, but I’d be happy to join the others in wishing you a Happy Birthday. Forty isn’t really that bad…in fact…it’s young! (I just turned 46!)Enjoy your day!Blessings,Joy

  10. Happy 40th to my bloggy friend. What a joy-filled day it should be. Take whatever moments you need to just indulge yourself. Today is my 50 to 50. In 50 days I will be 50 and I am counting down by doing something new everyday. I am having the time of my young life.Age is all about ‘ATTITUDE’ So enjoy and have FUN, FUN, FUN!!!

  11. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my friend!!!This will not be my last comment of the day, but I did just want to say that you look GREAT being 40!!! It’s not that bad, is it??!!

  12. I loved 40! A lot. 40 rings with life experience and wisdom (or at least it should). You’ve now reached the age that should garner some attention and respect from those around. Now 42…that’s been a harder embrace for me. Nobody around here seems to appreciate my 42 years worthy of wisdom or life experiences. In so many ways, I still feel 12!Happy Birthday…~elaine

  13. Very, very happiest birthday. 40 is nothing – I think we’re just beginning to hit our stride! Favorite verse these days is Jeremiah 29:11…I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. Plans for your welfare and not your calamity. Cool to think that today when you’re forty, He knows what you’re going to be doing on your 50th. And even better ALL the stuff in between is for your good. (Helps put those really horrible weeks – even those like the one in July – in perspective.)Enjoy your day.

  14. Happy Birthday!!!I love seeing women who I know are still young enter their 40’s. It proves I have nothing to fear.I will hit 40 in 2 years, but I’ve been pleased with my late 30’s.I just tagged you. . . .

  15. Happy birthday! You don’t look a day over 29, I tell you! The blessing of good skin is yours! Forty is not nearly as bad as they say – you are just finding your stride girl – you are old enough to know a little bit of something, and young enough to know you have a lot more to learn. It’s all good – every day we wake up breathing is pure joy, don’t you think? I hope all the chocolate you consumed today was quality or given in love by someone who doesn’t know quality yet – nothing worse than waxy chocolate on your special day! Forgivable when it is chosen by the kids though – totally!

  16. Hope you’ll always remember that the day you turned FORTY was FABULOUS!!And in the words of Emily Dickinson, “Yesterday is poetry…. yesterday is mystery….”May today and all the tomorrows be rich and fulfilling and full….making more poetry, more mystery, and more history.

  17. I’m a few days late, but Happy Birthday to You! I think 40 is young, even though I’m only 30. My mom had my baby sister the day after her 40th birthday! I hope you had a wonderful celebration.

  18. Hope you got the card I mailed. Maybe it arrived earlier than this belated Happy Birthday. You know I read your blog, I just have to read a week’s worth at at time sometimes! I thought about mailing you some dark chocolate, but didn’t think it would fare to well in the US Mail. Glad you had a great one! πŸ™‚
